SkinPen® Microneedling in Irvine, CA

Refine Your Skin. Stimulate Collagen. Reveal a Smoother Complexion.

Beautiful skin begins with a healthy foundation. At Skin Canvas Aesthetics, our approach to microneedling is designed to work with your skin's natural renewal process to improve its overall appearance while keeping results beautifully natural.

Using SkinPen® Precision, we create controlled microchannels in the skin that initiate the body's natural wound-healing response and stimulate collagen and elastin remodeling.

Whether you're concerned about acne scars, uneven texture, fine lines, or overall skin quality, we'll create a personalized treatment plan based on your skin, concerns, and goals.

What Is SkinPen Microneedling?

SkinPen is an FDA-cleared microneedling device that uses very fine, sterile needles to create thousands of controlled microchannels in the skin.

These micro-injuries activate the body's natural wound-healing process, stimulating the remodeling of collagen and elastin over time.

Unlike treatments that simply improve the appearance of the skin temporarily, microneedling works by encouraging a natural regenerative response within the skin.

The result? Smoother-looking texture, improved skin quality, and gradual rejuvenation that develops over time.

What Can SkinPen Microneedling Treat?

Depending on your individual concerns and treatment plan, SkinPen may be used to improve the appearance of:

  • Facial acne scars
  • Uneven skin texture
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Enlarged-looking pores
  • Dull or rough-looking skin
  • Certain neck wrinkles
  • Overall skin quality and texture

During your consultation, we'll evaluate your skin and determine whether SkinPen—or another Skin Canvas treatment—is the most appropriate option for your goals.

The Skin Canvas Approach to Microneedling

Microneedling shouldn't be a one-size-fits-all facial.

At Skin Canvas, we look at your skin as a whole: its texture, sensitivity, previous treatments, concerns, and long-term goals.

Your treatment may consist of SkinPen alone, or your provider may discuss complementary options such as PRP or specialized topical post-treatment skincare when appropriate.

We also offer VAMP and VAMP Advanced as specialized topical skincare options. Because these products and other post-procedure topicals require treatment-specific consideration when the skin barrier has been disrupted, your provider will determine whether and when they are appropriate rather than automatically including them with every SkinPen treatment.

Our goal isn't to add more treatments simply for the sake of doing more.

It's to create the right treatment for your skin.

SkinPen + PRP

For appropriate patients, PRP may be incorporated into a personalized skin rejuvenation plan.

PRP—or platelet-rich plasma—is prepared from a small sample of your own blood and contains concentrated platelets and naturally occurring growth factors.

At Skin Canvas, PRP is applied topically after SkinPen treatment rather than injected through the SkinPen device itself.

It's important to understand that although PRP is commonly paired with aesthetic procedures, SkinPen's FDA clearance does not mean that PRP itself has been FDA-approved as a microneedling enhancement.

We'll discuss the potential benefits, limitations, alternatives, and whether it makes sense for you during your consultation.

What to Expect During Your SkinPen Treatment

Your appointment begins with an assessment of your skin and treatment goals.

Your skin is thoroughly cleansed and prepared, and topical numbing may be used to make the treatment more comfortable.

SkinPen is then passed systematically across the treatment area at settings selected for your individual skin and treatment plan.

Afterward, your skin may look and feel similar to a mild-to-moderate sunburn. Redness, warmth, tightness, tenderness, dryness, and mild swelling can occur temporarily.

Your provider will give you specific aftercare instructions before you leave.

When Will I See Results?

Microneedling is different from an instant cosmetic treatment.

Your skin's remodeling process occurs gradually.

Some patients notice improvements in the appearance and feel of their skin as it recovers, while collagen remodeling continues over the following weeks and months.

Depending on your concerns, your provider may recommend a series of SkinPen treatments rather than a single session.

We'll develop your treatment schedule based on your skin rather than automatically placing every patient on the same protocol.

SkinPen Pre-Care

We will provide individualized instructions before your appointment. In general:

Before treatment:

  • Avoid excessive sun exposure and arrive without an active sunburn.
  • Avoid aggressive exfoliation or irritating skincare before treatment as directed.
  • Tell us about prescription and over-the-counter medications, supplements, allergies, and relevant medical conditions.
  • Tell us about recent injectables, laser treatments, chemical peels, or other procedures.
  • Let us know about active acne lesions, cold sores, rashes, infections, or irritation in the treatment area.
  • Follow any treatment-specific instructions provided by your Skin Canvas provider.

Do not discontinue prescribed medications solely because of a cosmetic procedure unless instructed by the clinician who manages that medication.

SkinPen Post-Care

Your skin barrier needs time to recover following microneedling.

After your treatment:

  • Follow the specific skincare instructions provided by your provider.
  • Keep the treatment area clean and avoid unnecessary touching.
  • Avoid picking, scratching, or exfoliating peeling or dry skin.
  • Avoid retinoids, acids, scrubs, and other potentially irritating active ingredients until you're cleared to resume them.
  • Avoid excessive sun exposure and follow your provider's recommendations for sun protection.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise, excessive heat, saunas, steam rooms, and swimming for the period recommended by your provider.
  • Do not apply unapproved products to freshly treated skin.
  • Contact Skin Canvas if you develop symptoms that seem unusual or more severe than the expected post-treatment response.

Your exact instructions may vary depending on your treatment depth, skin, and whether another treatment was incorporated into your plan.

Why Choose Skin Canvas for Microneedling?

Healthy Skin. Thoughtful Treatments. Natural Results.

We don't believe in performing the same treatment on every patient simply because it's popular.

At Skin Canvas Aesthetics, your treatment begins with understanding your skin.

Our approach combines clinical assessment, patient education, personalized treatment planning, and a commitment to natural-looking results.

When another treatment would better address your concern, we'll tell you.

When SkinPen is appropriate, we'll develop a treatment plan designed around your goals—not a generic protocol.

SkinPen Microneedling FAQs

1. Does SkinPen microneedling hurt?

Most patients tolerate SkinPen well. A topical numbing product may be used before treatment to improve comfort. Patients commonly describe pressure, vibration, or a scratching sensation, although sensitivity varies by treatment area and individual.

2. How many SkinPen treatments will I need?

There isn't one correct number for everyone. Your recommended treatment series depends on what you're trying to improve, the condition of your skin, and how your skin responds. Some concerns, particularly acne scarring, may benefit from a series rather than a single treatment.

3. How much downtime should I expect?

Temporary redness, warmth, tightness, tenderness, dryness, and mild swelling can occur following treatment. The intensity and duration vary between patients. We'll discuss recovery expectations before treatment so you can plan appropriately around work, events, exercise, and skincare.

4. When will I see results from SkinPen?

Microneedling initiates a biological remodeling process, so results aren't immediate. You may notice changes as your skin recovers, while collagen remodeling continues gradually over the following weeks and months.

5. Is SkinPen safe for different skin tones?

One advantage of mechanical microneedling is that it does not rely on delivering heat to the skin in the same manner as many energy-based resurfacing devices. However, candidacy still needs to be evaluated individually, particularly for patients prone to pigmentation changes or abnormal scarring.

6. What's the difference between SkinPen and PRP microneedling?

SkinPen is the microneedling device responsible for creating controlled microchannels in the skin. PRP is prepared from your own blood and may be considered separately as part of an individualized treatment plan. At Skin Canvas, PRP is applied topically after SkinPen rather than delivered through the SkinPen device.

7. Can I combine SkinPen with other treatments?

Potentially. SkinPen may be part of a broader skin rejuvenation plan, but more treatment isn't automatically better. Your provider will determine appropriate timing between SkinPen, injectables, peels, lasers, skincare treatments, or other procedures to minimize unnecessary irritation and optimize your overall plan.

8. How much does SkinPen microneedling cost?

Pricing depends on your treatment area and whether your personalized plan includes additional services or products. We'll explain your recommended treatment plan and associated pricing before treatment so you know exactly what is being recommended and why.
